Spelling Bee Participants - who will win the Bee?

Cole Cribari

Cole is excited to be in his first CSTC production after performing as Sky Masterson in Holy Family High School's production of Guys & Dolls this spring. Cole is excited to be back in the heat of the spelling bee after his disappointing performance in 6th grade at his own state spelling bee where he made it to the oral round of the state bee as a frontrunner but unfortunately missed all five of his oral round words and was the first person to be eliminated from the bee. Cole is a veteran performer with the Peanut Butter Players children's theater and will be attending the University of Colorado at Boulder next year to double major in Musical Theater and Finance.

Cole Bradley
Cole is incredibly excited to be returning for his third CSTC show. Past roles include Zoser in Aida and a Pumpkin in Kindergarten. Spelling is not his strong suit, and he would like to thank Spell Check for its constant support through both good words and bad. He will be attending the University of Colorado in the fall.

Leaf Coneybear

AJ Berge
AJ is thrilled to be a part of another CSTC production. He recently worked at Peak to Peak Charter School on their production of Pippin and he will be attending Seattle Pacific University this fall. Spelling bees tend to bring back some unpleasant memories for him. In grade school, he was filled with anxiety on bee day due to his overwhelming need (and his consistent inability) to be number one. He hopes exploring this character will give him the opportunity he's always needed to crush the competition. Or maybe not. You'll just have to come see the show.

Christopher Turner
Christopher is excited to be a part of the Spelling Bee cast after being away from the stage for a few years.   Most recently he was seen on-stage at a benefit concert in Dec. 2009 with broadway star Shoshana Bean!  Christopher remembers studying like crazy in grade school for the spelling bee and always being asked to spell the most tricky words.  What an unfortunate conundrum, to be asked to spell a tricky word at a spelling bee!!

Erin Jones

Erin is so excited to be back with CSTC once more before heading off to The George Washington University in D.C. next year to study International Relations and Theater. Erin was one of those kids who always loved to spell, but never got the chance to participate in a spelling bee, and is excited to be involved in her very first one! Playing a little girl with a lisp who is certainly much better at spelling than she ever was, she is excited to brush up her "thooper awethome thpelling thkillsh!" (super awesome spelling skills).

Spelling Bee
Katie McManus

Katie is absolutely thrilled to be a part of yet another CenterStage production! Most recently, she played the Mother Abbess in CSTC's "The Sound of Music," but her favorite roles have included Asaka in "Once on this Island," and the Witch in "Into the Woods." A recent graduate of Holy Family High School, she will be attending the University of Colorado in Boulder in the fall to study musical theater and something practical. Like her character, Katie had a rather unfortunate speech impediment in her youth, which caused her to lose the St. Louis Catholic School spelling bee title when she mistakenly spelled "yellow" as "wewwow." Since then, she has learned to control her wild "w"s!

Marcy Park

Jessica Dorcey
Jessica is thrilled to be a part of Spelling Bee at CSTC. She comes to the Bee fresh off performances at the University of Denver as Ninetta in The Green Bird and Nina in The Seagull. She hopes this spelling bee will allow her to make up for her 3rd grade disaster of misspelling "February" (who puts a random "R" in the middle of the word? ridiculous). She hopes she gets to spell "noodle" as it is one of her favorites. Sayonara!!

Hannah Ferwerda
Hannah is excited to make her debut in a CSTC musical. In honor of the traditions of a Spelling Bee, she would like to share her favorite word: effusive, meaning to express feelings of joy, or excitement in an unrestrained or heart-felt manner. She loves this word because she equates the definition of effusive to her definition of performance. “To be a performer, you have to be vulnerable enough to express emotions in their purest form, uninhibited”. Had there been a Spelling Bee at her elementary school, she likes to think that she would’ve won with just that word.

Mitch Mahoney

Charles Burden
Charles is thrilled to be making his CenterStage debut playing the comfort counselor Mitch. A Psychology major at Metro, Charles feels the role is very appropriate as he has spent most of his life working with children and trying to boost their spirits when they're down. Surprisingly, in his life, Charles has never taken part in a formal spelling bee.

Kevin Mackin
Kevin is a freshman at MSC of Denver (soon to be Denver State University) where he is getting a degree in Music Education and Vocal Performance. His most recent role was Mereb in CSTC's production of Elton John's Aida. As a child, Kevin wasn't, and still isn't, the greatest speller in the entire world. In 5th grade he had to spell "wagon" to get into the spelling bee and ended up spelling it w-a-g-e-n, which, of course, is completely wrong. Kevin's favorite word of all time is righteous. The reason for this is because its just a solid word and has no flaws whatsoever. Kevin also enjoys humans, so he hopes you enjoy the show!

Olive Ostrovsky

Kristen Over
Kristen is very excited to be in her first show since her senior year at Dakota Ridge High School. She will never forget misspelling the word “course” in her 2nd grade spelling bee (she thought she was being clever when she spelled “coarse” instead). As a result, she hates anything that has to do with golf.

Olive Ostrovsky
Michelle Herring
Michelle is so excited to be back at CSTC this summer! She most recently played Carrie Pipperidge in CSTC’s production of Carousel, and will be a sophomore acting major at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts (Experimental Theatre Wing). Michelle came in second place in her third grade spelling bee after misspelling the word “dictionary.” She was very embarrassed because she hates coming in second and she felt like she let down her mentor, the dictionary. Now Michelle and the dictionary are best friends and she hopes she will never come in second again!

Rona Lisa Perretti
Shannon Meihaus
Shannon is very excited to be playing Rona Peretti in this production and with this cast. Her most recent roles include Rosemary in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, as well as various roles with the local Boulder theatre company, Hip Hip Heredia. By the way, she says kudos to the REAL spelling bee contestants... stagefright isnt common for her, but if she actually had to spell syzygy in a competition, as her character does, she would probably faint. Too much pressure!!!

Rona Lisa Perretti

Amanda Hartman
Amanda is ecstatic to be back on stage after a year absence to bring into this world a beautiful baby boy.  Audiences may remember her award winning performance as “Meg” in Brigadoon presented by Longmont Theater Company.  Amanda has always been a terrific speller; receiving high marks through out her elementary education.  Presently, her favorite word is M-A-M-A!

William Barfee
Nathan Lawrence
Nathan is tickled pink to be involved in his fourth show with CSTC. He has just finished work on CSTC's second production of The Sound of Music and Peak to Peak's production of Pippin. Nathan remembers studying endlessly for his fifth grade spelling bee, only to come in third place by misspelling "vagrancy."

William Barfee
Ian Wallace-Moyer
Ian is ecstatic to finally be a kid again, in yet another production with CenterStage. This fall he plans on attending the University of Rochester in New York and still wishes he hadn't been so Spanish in his spelling of aquaducto, I mean.... aqueduct.

Vice Principal Panch

Alex Cullimore
Alex Cullimore is working on his math degree at CU Boulder and has been ever since an unfortunate run in with a dictionary and a sack of kumquats scared him away from the world of words. He was recently seen as Jigger in Carousel and a renowned clown superhero: Captain Whammy.

Director

Jeanie Balch
Jeanie is back at the helm of another musical for CSTC after enjoying working with Theatre Company of Lafayette on their play festival, Robots at Play, this spring. She still regrets letting down her 5th Grade class by misspelling “Good-bye” (forgot the hyphen and final “e”) and allowing the rival 5th grade class to win the Bee. Consequently, Jeanie now avoids all good-byes and prefers to just say “see you later!”

Katie McClave
Katie is excited to be music directing for the 4th time with CSTC, having worked on Camelot, Into the Woods, and Carousel in recent years. Katie has never been able to overcome her disappointment of placing 3rd in the first grade spelling bee, and blames her consequent perpetual yearn for perfectionism on that event.
